Our Story
Flora Farm grew out of two family gardens planted on neighboring land. Delane Clark and Sarah Kathryn Clark, an aunt and a niece, came together with a shared goal: to sustainably grow quality food and flowers for their community.
Flora Farm is small by design— rooted in a commitment to care for the land and grow things in a way that’s sustainable and thoughtful. The farm is a continuation of a family story. Our work is shaped by the seasons, the soil, and the people around us — grounded in connection and staying close to what matters.
Growing Practices
At Flora Farm, we aim to farm in a way that gives back more than it takes. Regenerative agriculture guides our approach — focusing on soil health, biodiversity, and improving the land we grow on.
Working on a small scale lets us be involved with every part of the process. We use mostly hand tools, minimally till, never use chemical pesticides or sprays, and are always feeding the soil through compost and cover cropping. As a young farm, we’re always learning — adapting our methods as we go and striving for the highest quality food and flowers. It’s an ongoing process, and we’re committed to doing it thoughtfully.

Born and raised in northeastern North Carolina, Delane developed an early appreciation for farming and access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Delane’s childhood memories include eating her grandmother's biscuits with macerated strawberries, coming home from school to pick spring asparagus, rising with the sun to harvest tomatoes and peaches, and spending weekends working at a roadside vegetable market — a formative education in hard work, community, and family connection.
After college, Delane moved to Charlotte to pursue a career in physical therapy and eventually settled in the rolling hills of Lincoln County. With her love of the outdoors, healthy food, and beautiful flowers, she dreamed of one day doing more with the land her family called home. That dream became a reality when Delane's niece Sarah Kathryn Clark and her husband Dominick Mortarotti became her neighbors, opening the door to what would become Flora Farm.
For Delane, farming is a complement to an already full and rewarding life. Whether tending to flowers and vegetables or developing her knowledge of sustainable farming practices, Flora Farm has given Delane the opportunity to honor both her formative roots and the land on which her family lives.

Sarah Kathryn grew up in Charlotte, spending weekends on her family’s farm—and always knew she wanted to build a life rooted in that land. After earning an MFA in Design for Sustainability from SCAD, she was introduced to regenerative design and, in turn, regenerative agriculture. That connection between land and climate shaped her belief that farming can be a powerful tool for addressing climate change. Her thesis on biophilia deepened her appreciation for the importance of living a life closely connected to nature.
After several years working in architecture as an interior designer, she left the office behind to focus full-time on building a sustainable farming practice. Her aunt, Delane Clark, and her husband, Dominick Mortarotti, were both ready to join forces and begin this new venture as a family business. While she still takes on occasional design projects, her background shows up most clearly in the garden and flower fields, where arranging blooms and shaping the landscape offer a creative outlet grounded in the rhythms of the farm. For Sarah Kathryn, a fulfilling life means staying connected—to both the land and the people she loves.

Born in San Francisco, Dominick always felt drawn to life in the country. During the COVID pandemic, he and his wife, Sarah Kathryn, relocated to her home state of North Carolina, where he began working at Wild Hope Farm in Chester, SC, as a Propagation and Market Apprentice. Since then, he has piloted the USDA North Carolina hemp program, worked as a floral assistant at In Bloom, LTE, and launched a composting initiative at Slalom Consulting, where he now works as a business strategist. He has also enjoyed supporting Sarah Kathryn and Delane in launching Flora Farm. Dominick is passionate about regenerative agriculture and bringing innovation to the field through sustainable practices.
